Sustainable Blue Economy Value Chain and Water Resources Management System Series

By Olanrewaju Sulaiman Oladokun

The ocean, vital to life on Earth, presents significant challenges and opportunities. With 40% of the world's population living near coastal areas, over 3 billion people rely on oceans for their livelihood, and 80% of global trade is sea-based. The ocean economy, projected by the OECD to reach USD 3 trillion by 2030, holds the potential for food security, poverty eradication, job creation, and building resilient economies. Despite technological advancements, there remains much to learn and innovate in water and ocean sciences, particularly in alternative energy, environmental protection, ocean exploration, sensing technology, and material science. This book compiles recent maritime research and innovations essential for advancing the blue economy. It is structured into eight parts: Climate Change Control: Central issues, quantification, and technology in the maritime industry. Marine Design and Sustainable Development: Issues and advancements. Innovative Marine Energy and Environmental Systems: Applications of science and engineering. Marine Safety and Environmental Risk: Requirements for competitive and sustainable systems. Coastal and Inland Waterway Transportation: Solutions to environmental problems near populations. Offshore Aquaculture Systems: Techniques and exploration models. Human Elements in Maritime Activities: Impact of new technology. Marine Pollution and Mitigation: Options and strategies. The book aims to disseminate critical information for the maritime industry and academia, enhancing access to maritime studies and promoting sustainable blue economy development.
