Surviving the Heartbreak of Choosing Death for Your Pet

If you loved your pet like your child, which in my case I did, and you're put in a position of whether or not to euthanise your pet, this book is a must read!! My sweet 7 year old pomeranian, Angel developed kidney disease and I had to put her to sleep. Unless you have had to make that decision, you cannot possibly believe how hard it is to live with that decision. My vet assured me this was the right way to go, and so she died in my arms. I cannot emphasize enough how valuable this book was for me. I cannot relate enough how helpful and valuable this book is and the comfort it has brought me in healing in the loss of my precious Angel...... E. Cook South Carolina

Very Practical Guide

This was one of the best books that I have read related to handling the death of a beloved pet, and frankly the only one that I have seen which focuses specifically on death by euthanasia. Written by a social worker, it provides some very practical steps that you can take and questions you need to ask (of yourself and your vet) when you are considering the possibility of euthanasia for your pet. Whether it's a dog, cat, horse, or bird, if you have cared for it and have any feelings at all, the decision to end its life can be a heart-wrenching one. This book can help. It's also a useful resource for professionals who perhaps are in the position of helping clients through the process of grieving, letting go, and finally saying good-bye.

excellent for grief & guilt

We had to put down our 2 1/2 yr old dog Bella. She had been fighting kidney failure for several months. We spent thousand's of dollars caring for her, even knowing that she would die, most likely because of us. we promised her we wouldn't let her suffer, and after fighting for a year and half the Dr. told us her time had come, she would soon be suffering. taking her that day, like we had so many times before when she needed to be at the Vet's, was torture, we were devastated, but we think that Bella knew it was her time..she went into the office and immediately laid down on the cushions the Vet had put down for her...she slipped away a few minutes later,,the pain and GUILT was overwhelming,,we worked so hard to keep her al;ive with a good quality of life, and to have be the one's that took her life was awful..this BOOK helped, it really did. The author understands the complex, painful emotions that someone exeriences the loss of the loved pet, and the guilt of having to make that final desision..We let Bella go BEFORE her illness would have killed her, she tromped into the Vet's office like she did 5 times a week for fluids (injected into her neck to help her kidneys)..she was ALIVE, then gone..I still have this book, and the Rainbow Bridge(enc.)poem is heartwrenching, and a salvation..you did the right thing..get the book

Saviour

This book was difficult to read right after I made the decision to have my best friend put to sleep, so I had to wait for a couple of months. When I did finally pick it up (a gift from a friend), I could feel my chest lose its tightness, and a sense of calm come over me. There is an incredible sense of guilt associated with making this choice for your friend. This book helped lift this guilt and replace it with a sense of peace. Thanks, Linda.

I Can't Say Enough!

This book was extremely helpful! Having to choose death for my best friend of 20 years was incredibly painful and brought feelings of guilt, despair, relief and depression. At the time, I felt I might just be loosing my mind. This book helped me work through all of my feelings. It gave me a peaceful feeling. It let me know, that I was not alone. There are a number of useful references in the back. I really can't recommend this book enough. I was so helped by this book that I have since made it available to my local vets office. Thank you to the author. For anyone considering this book. Buy It. It will help.
