'Survival', set in the 1970's in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., is the second in a series of books about Sam Ballantine. In the first book, 'Normal?', Sam is a transgender student who endures beatings and an attempt on her life. While she wishes no one else harm, others want to harm her just because she is different. She can't help being a girl born in a boy's body. All she wants to do is live her life as any other teenage girl. In 'Survival', as she continues with high school, family tragedy strikes which questions whether Sam will have even more problems at home. James continues to provide confusing signals about their relationship. Sometimes he seems to care, other times he ignores her. But through it all Jen and Sis are there to support her. This book does contain a limited amount of gay and heterosexual sex. It may not be suitable for anyone under the age of 13.
