Primary Research Group Inc., publisher of research reports and surveys about higher education, has published a survey tracking receipt of internal grants by research oriented faculty. The report gives detailed data on the percentage and type of faculty who have received internal research grants and how much that they have received over the past three years. The study also gives a comprehensive view of how transparent faculty believe their institutions awards of internal funding to its scholars have been.Just a few of this 29-page report's many findings are:¿ Median internal grants were particularly high in computer science and engineering.¿ Faculty in business and biology/biochemistry were more likely than others to feel that the internal grant awards process was problematic and lacking in transparency.¿ Internal grant support was higher for female than male faculty.¿ Cumulative internal grant total support per faculty member over the past three years ranged from 0 to $1.2 million. The data in the report is based on a survey of 378 higher education faculty drawn from a stratified universe of faculty emphasizing STEM faculty. Data is broken out by numerous institutional and personal variables including college or university type, size, and public/private status, as well as by personal respondent level of lifetime grant receipts, age, gender, work title and academic field. Data is broken out for 20 subject areas, and separately for research universities, doctoral institutions, BA and community colleges.
