I heard Clayton King speak several times when I was in high school & college, and thought him to be one of the most engaging, hilarious, and genuine speakers for youth I'd ever heard. When I got this book, I wondered whether Clayton's dynamic, captivating style would translate to the written page. I was delighted to discover that it had. This book made me laugh and cry, all the while teaching me an important lesson about God's obviousness. He is all around us if only we remember to notice! In each chapter, Clayton tells a brief story--sometimes common and ordinary, sometimes remarkable and extraordinary--and demonstrates what those passing events taught him about various aspects of who God is. Because each chapter's story stands alone, this book works well as a personal daily devotional or even a weekly family devotional. I can't wait to see what Clayton will come out with next!

God is Always Ready to Speak

So often those of us who have given our lives to Christ wait for the perfect moment for Him to show Himself to us, whether we be at church, at a certain moment we've been waiting for, or in moments that we seem to expect. In Surrounded by the Sacred, Clayton King provides an honest and entertaining reflection of the ability (obviously God has the ability!) to show up in even the most mundane moments of our lives. For example, the author discusses how God has come through and provided some sacred, meaningful, and unexpected glimpses of Himself in places such as a trip to the Grand Canyon with friends, on an airplane, and even watching a spider ready to attack an ant outside a drive thru window! Certainly God speaks to all of us in this manner, if we just keep our eyes open and understand that He is all around us. A funny, readable, and insightful account of God's work in our everyday lives.
