Excellent Options Overview

I read this book when I began my self-education into the financial markets back in the mid-'80s. Now I can get a hardback copy, in 'like new' condition, for a steal! It contains 200-300 practical examples on using options for all sorts of investment situations and objectives. If you're new to investing, it might take a while to see the logic in some of the examples, but all of the strategies are viable and 'make sense'. It is an excellent resource on the use of options for straight trading, hedging, spreads, straddles, producing income, and insurance, etc. IMHO "Sure-Thing Options Trading:..." should be on every investor's bookshelf.

Top of the Class

This book is intended (more or less) for a person beginning in options. Its no "walk in the woods" but considering the abstruseness of both the subject and the other books on the topic I have scanned, it's near the top of the class. I think, it may also be somewhat more understandable than the Option Industry Council's - Option's Toolbox CD. This whole area has been poorly explained to the beginner for the most part, which is why options are not much more widely used despite their potential for leverage and risk reduction.

Best of the multiple options books I have read.

Of the ten + options books that I have read, this was my first, and it is the best. I still refer to it often. Most of the other books are either too technical or too simplistic. This engages the reader with practical examples and descriptions of the types of trades that the novice to intermediate investor will use most. I heartily recommend it.

This book is very interesting and readable.

A concise, useful, and comprehensive overview of futures trading. It was quite appropriate for a beginner.

Good for Neophyte

This is the first book on option trading I have ever bought or read.It is a handful. It is a comprehensive basic guide to the concepts and definitions of option trading, which is almost completely intelligible (with study) to a bright person who is new to the subject. It assumes a very high level of general comprehension, although no prior knowledge of options. (If someone was giving this book as a lecture there is no way 75 out of 100 people could keep up in my opinion, especially with the examples, but as a book you can read it and re-read it and work out the examples on paper...and everything is explained and eventually comprehensible.)It is written an eye towards how to make money in practical terms. For instance, the author advises ways to cut commission costs, advice to the novice on expectations on incurring some initial losses, and practical advice on cutting losses. It is 249 page paperback (excluding indexes) with small print, so it is clearly worth the $12 purchase price. It has an explanation of various option trading and techniques. It was written in 1983, so to some extent maybe it is dated, but the concepts and materials are timeless, I think. If you are new to the study of options as I am I think this book could keep you busy for at least 2 weeks, reading it, re-reading it, and working out the examples until you truly understand them.
