Nikai has a big imagination, a loving family, and enough energy to turn an ordinary day into an adventure. But sometimes his excitement moves faster than his thinking. When he wants one more minute on the playground, another swing at baseball practice, or a crayon someone else is using, making the right choice can feel hard.
In Super Kai: The Power to Choose, Nikai discovers that a superhero's greatest strength can begin with one deep breath. G Pop is coming from Atlanta, and Nikai can hardly wait His grandfather plans to cheer him on at a baseball game and then take him to the aquarium. Before their special adventure, however, Nikai has a challenge: practice making better choices for a school week. For a boy who is always excited and ready to move, thats a long time.
Lately, things have not been going well. Nikai refuses to stop playing when Ms. Bridges calls his class inside. At baseball practice, he ignores Coach and ends up running laps while his teammates enjoy playing. Seeing Mommy's disappointed expression makes his heart feel heavy. Then, still upset about his difficult week, he breaks the classroom crayons. His classmates are sad, and deep in his tummy, Nikai feels bad too. Mommy reminds him that making a bad choice does not mean he is a bad person. The good guy inside him is still there. He is still Super Kai, and he has a power he can learn to use: the power to pause before deciding what to do next.
Breathe. Think. Choose.
By breathing in deeply and blowing out slowly, Nikai gives himself a moment to notice his feelings. He can think about what might happen if he keeps running, grabs what he wants, or lets his anger take over. He can also think about another possibility: listening, waiting, sharing, asking for help, or trying again. During the following week, familiar challenges return. Recess still ends before Nikai wants it to. Someone else still has the crayon he would like. Coach still needs him to stop swinging and listen. This time, Nikai begins to respond differently. He learns that he can feel disappointed and still cooperate, feel excited and still wait, or feel angry and still keep his hands gentle. His biggest test comes when another child accidentally knocks down his tower of blocks. Nikai has worked hard, and now everything is scattered. Will he shout and push, or can he call on his superpower? A breath, a thoughtful choice, and the willingness to begin again open the door to rebuilding something even better together-and making a new friend. As Nikai practices, he discovers how good it feels to calm down, help others, and make choices he can feel proud of. Ms. Bridges notices his effort. Mommy celebrates his progress. And when G Pop finally knocks at the door, Nikai has more to share than his excitement: he has a whole week of learning behind him. From the classroom to the baseball field and the wonders of the aquarium, this warm family adventure shows children that their choices matter to the people around them. Listening helps a teacher. Sharing helps a classmate. Kindness protects a friendship. Thoughtful actions can make a shared day happier for everyone.
The story also makes room for mistakes. Nikai does not become perfect, and he does not stop being energetic, imaginative, or full of feelings. He learns to recognize those feelings and give himself time to choose what comes next. Even after a difficult moment, another good choice is possible.
