Cubah, a woman who lives in London, attends a loved one's funeral in Kingston, Jamaica. She meets a Freedom Fighter who takes her on a journey that introduces her, to her own Sankofa through her ancestors, the Windward Maroons, (Cudjo's counterpart Quao and fellow warrior Nanny, leader of 'Nanny Town'). The leaders of the Windward Maroons signed the 1739 Peace Treaty after much wrangling with the British Redcoats and Jamaican settlers, a year after Cudjoe, leader of the Leeward Maroons. This text portrays life in Jamaica and the UK, as it was in the 1770s and is today. The characters and events represent TIME PAST, TIME PRESENT AND TIME FUTURE.
