Sunset in the Highlands

By Martha Reagan

Twenty-eight-year-old Maeve Gallagher is drowning in debt and desperate for a lifeline. Her final hope arrives in the form of a lucrative ghostwriting assignment for Valerie Thorne, a ruthless and mesmerizing icon of Golden Age Hollywood who now lives in self-imposed exile in a decaying Scottish castle.

But from the moment Maeve crosses the threshold, she realizes Valerie isn't looking for a biographer. She is looking for a new toy.

As a brutal blizzard severs all communication and traps them inside the freezing stone walls, Maeve is dragged into a twisted web of psychological manipulation and sadistic power plays. Valerie is a master of emotional torture, breaking down Maeve's professional armor piece by piece and pushing her to the brink of her own sanity. Surrounded by a terrified staff and trapped in a deadly game of cat and mouse, Maeve discovers the horrifying truth: the storm outside is nothing compared to the devouring fire within.

Stripped of her identity and her pride, Maeve must make an impossible choice: freeze to death in the Highland snow, or willingly hand over the keys to her own cage.

Sunset in the Highlands is a deeply atmospheric, claustrophobic thriller that explores the terrifying allure of absolute submission, toxic obsession, and the lethal cost of playing with a legend.
