I recently picked up a copy of this book, and I'm very glad I took a chance on it. It's a relatively quick read, though it can be confusing at times; there are plenty of new words to decipher and the point of view jumps relatively quickly from one character's perspective to another. Still, it's worth it to follow the growing psyches of Nita (a young bandit), Jonno (a mystic), Marl (a jaguar), the rest of the "muneys" and even an oak tree. It is an unlikely group of six who come together, relying on each other for survival - physical and spiritual - in a harsh, violent society. To describe it further would be to do it a disservice.I came to love these characters in spite of myself, and found myself crying at the end of the novel. This is, indeed, a beautiful story.
