Gage Maher is barely keeping his head above water. The growing pile of unpaid bills on his counter reminds him of that every day. Over a decade ago, a freak accident ended his UFC dreams, and he's been drifting through life with a dark cloud looming overhead ever since.
Kori Wright is on a mission. After wasting her first two years of undergrad alone in her dorm, she's searching for a place to belong. With only a half-baked plan and naive hope, she braves the local bar scene and quickly realizes she's in over her head.
As a rule, Gage doesn't talk to customers. But something about this woman's trepidation stirs his protective instincts. Against his better judgment, he tries to ease her nerves, and the longer they talk, the more apparent it becomes that Kori awakens feelings he thought were long dead.
