After rounding the Horn of South America he navigated his way along the coast of Brazil and became shipwrecked in the West Indies. A final, climactic voyage across the Atlantic Ocean to Spain in a makeshift boat awarded Odysseus the first circumnavigation of the globe c.1160 - 1130 B.
