I wonder when we talk again
If you will recognize me
I'm not the girl I was
Timid and afraid
Of both myself
And the world
Pulsing and breathing
All around me

You might think that
She died in the inferno
But I know that she did not
The disguise she had woven
Burned to ashes

I was reborn
Freed from the
Cage I had made for myself
I revealed the searing light
That was hidden in
The deepest parts of my soul

I had finally realized
I was a smart, bold, courageous
Beautiful and most important of all
Unapologetically genuine woman

All along I had been
A phoenix waiting for my time
To rise
