A young writer leaves southern California for a summer in Oregon, ending up spending most of it at a hot springs miles from the nearest town. He carries his old typewriter into a camp of hippies, nomads, fugitives and weekend visitors and eventually becomes something of a camp secretary. He spends most of his days at the well-visited springs and a nearby reservoir with all sorts of visitors - hippies, locals, college students, bikers, travelers and families - coming by foot, car or van, bus or motorcycle to get a taste of nature and hang out - naked if so inclined - at the hot pools in the woods. There is plenty of celebration (including some psychedelic times) in the wooded atmosphere. Also, the young writer and his new friends visit a nearby college town now and then, including a short stint of employment at a summer ending fair.
