The summer of 1979 began the usual way for Bill Brady: School's out, and his lounging around his room began. The talk of college and his future are in a constant flux as well as his own questions about himself and who he wants to be. He finds the questions become harder when his sharecropper father hires on a young man to help with the summer's tomato crop. Tommy Carter is an enigma for Bill, and Bill begins to act on his questions. He suddenly finds himself head over heels for Tommy. The two have dreams to be with each other forever.

In the turmoil of the South post-Vietnam War and the growth of the Feminist Movement, Bill struggles with his own sexual identity and telling his family about his secret relationship with Tommy. Will his Bible bearing parents accept their son? How would Bill and Tommy make the summer without their secret being exposed?
