Book Overview

Tom, Carrie, Em and Michael are still living on their own at World's End. In between wondering where the next meal will come from, and trying to avoid interfering grown-ups, they are never short of fun and excitement. Carrie cannot stand to see an animal suffer, and when she plunges into another rescue operation, more perilous than any she has attempted before - putting her, and faithful dog Charlie, into terrible danger - things quickly spiral out...

Monica Dicken's books are wonderful!

I used to read Monica Dicken's books over and over again growing up. The "World's End" books are truly fascinating and I loved reading about the four siblings who find an old house and create a life for themselves, together with their pets. They deal with the subject of animal welfare and animal rescue. They are very realistic, but at the same time wonderfully unrealistic, because there four children would obviously not be allowed to live by themselves in contemporary England. There are four books in this serie, "The House at World's End", "Summer at World's End", "Spring at World's End and "Winter at Worlds End". I truly love all four and would recommend any child/young adult (especially who loves animals) to read them. Monica Dickens have also written the books about "Follyfoot" which are fantastic books about horses. Once again, it deals with the theme of animal rescue - this time it is horses who are rescued from abusing and neclecting owners. They are all wonderful.

Childhood pleasures

These books(the whole World's End series) have been hovering in my head for years, despite the fact i have been able to find no trace of their existence for nearly a decade. They are not about the world's end, but rather a family that comes to live at the World's Inn, a delapidated old inn, referred to as "World's End" by the locals. With their parents out of the picture the four children must learn to survive on their own, and later with their changed parents. They must hide from the world their unsupervised status and figure out how to live normally, getting jobs and such. If you can find a copy these books are efinitely worth it.
