This is a beautiful story of prejudice, courage and hope. Sumitra's family is kicked out of Uganda by Idi Amin because they are Asians and not Africans. They successfully seek refuge in England, only to find that the atmosphere there is also one of hate and prejudice. Sumitra and Sandya her sister struggle to find their role in society - they used to love their life in Uganda, but now in England they have seen what freedom is - and they want it so badly. But running away will mean losing their family and entering into a world that is often ruthless, prejudiced and cruel. Are either of them brave enough to run away? I have the book at home - I came across it in the school library and the librarian said I could keep it. This is a book you can read again and again, and you never get tired of it.
This is a book I would glady read again.

I thought the book started out slowly, but it picked up very quickly. I read this during a time when my mother and I would not be able to speak to each other without arguing about something. It tought me to accept my parents beliefs and stuff, while still holding on to my own. Now my mom and I get along just fine, and I'd like to give this story part of the credit.
It was very interesting to read about their religion
