This book of 15 poems and three halftone illustrations was loosely inspired by the musical suite "Carnival of the Animals" by the French composer Camille Saint-Sa ns and the environmental perspective of Chief Seattle. A frightened mouse, two talking ravens, a flock of sixteen swans, a bumblebee, and a caterpillar are some of the animals that take part in the poems Some human animals interact with these furry, feathered, and winged creatures. The poems are unrhymed, but sometimes in tight quatrains, tercets, or couplets.
