With globalization and technological advancement, health products, household products, chemicals, industrial products, gases, plants, and pesticides are becoming increasingly prevalent in people's daily lives. In some cases, this daily use is accompanied by misuse, leading to accidental or intentional poisoning. Despite the efforts made by national and international operators and by all governments to ensure that only products that have undergone the strictest controls are placed on the market, and to develop health surveillance systems through risk assessment and evaluation of health impacts, cases of poisoning are steadily increasing, leading to a rise in morbidity and mortality. Cases of poisoning can be either accidental or suicidal. Indeed, suicide, due to its frequency, constitutes a tragic global public health problem that causes more deaths than homicides and wars combined. The economic cost of care runs into the billions.
