Suicide Room: A Noir Short Story

In a harrowing neo-noir tale set in the near future a series of bad decisions leads to an ever-increasing downward spiral towards destruction for a man to whom the answer to all of his desires remains just out of reach. Kane, a veteran of the African Wars, is trapped in a dead-end job working for a man who doesn't respect his work or his ideas for improving the business. Following an argument, Kane spends the afternoon in a bar then returns to ask for his old job back, but his boss is dead. Kane decides this is the break he has been waiting for but then a stranger injects himself into the situation. Kane cannot decide whether to trust the man but must keep him close out of fear of discovery. From that moment onward each decision he makes only leads to increasing tension between the two until the explosive ending.
