What would you do if a bunch of letters jumped right off the page while you were reading a book? Run after them, of course. Join Sue MacDonald as she travels from a railroad station to a sewer to a mountain peak and more, all in an attempt to capture her renegade vowels. Reading a book has never been so interactive Jim Tobin's clever text based on a favorite children's song is perfectly coupled with Dave Coverly's winning illustrations. Get ready for a madcap adventure starring five very important letters."
I know you're supposed to be able to read or sing this book but I have yet to merely read it because it's so tempting and easy to break into song since the verses fit the "Old MacDonald Had a Farm" so well. It's a sweet book that tots enjoy not only because you are singing it, not only because the pictures are cute but there is a little bit of a storyline as well. Best of all (at least for me) it's educational! Sue MacDonald had a book that was perfectly readable until all the vowels escaped and now she has to hunt them down in order for her book to make sense again. Each vowel is featured and the story accompanying each vowels uses that vowel's sound. E.g. " She wove a net and got all set/ Big trapeze, flew with ease/ tossed him to the chimpanzees" is the story featuring E and it uses lots of E sounds. My 17 month old loves it and brings it to me to read all the time. One of his favorites, I would definitely recommend it.

Kids will eat this book up -- and no doubt read it again and again -- but parents and teachers will like it just as much, because it's fun, smart and spares them the burden of having to teach the kids the sometimes slippery concept of vowels themselves!

Bedtime favorite story!

Both of my daughters love this wonderfully written and illustrated book. It's a nightly bedtime favorite story. The girls enjoy the fun vowels and their adventures, are fascinated by the "microbes" and love to sing along, as well. One child calls it "my AEIOU" book, the other wants a backpack with letters in it for herself. This book is educational & entertaining.

Picked this book up and laughed hysterically. Written in the style of Old Macdonald makes it feel like a classic. Illustrations are gorgeous and the subtleties make the pictures worth studying. A book you and the kids will read over and over!
