Must buy this book series

I really enjoyed the development of the main characters. It’s such an unusual story which makes it hard to put down! Love it!

Hilarious and Steamy Mystery

Succubus Blues is the first in the Georgina Kincaid series. Georgina is a succubus, an alluring, shape-shifting demon who seduces and pleasures mortal men. And she's good at her job - really good. But after having sold her soul nearly a millennia ago, she's tired. Tired of not being able to go on a decent date without having to worry as to whether or not she'll end up sucking the guy's soul out in one kiss - literally. Talk about put a damper on a first date. But there is an upside in Georgina's life. Her job. She's an assistant manager at a local bookstore and has access to all the free books she can get her hands on - what more could a girl want? Aside from the aforementioned decent date, and well, getting her hands on her oh-so-favorite author, Seth Mortensen. However, those are things that will have to wait because someone or something is taking out Seattle's immortal residents and Georgina and her immortal friends don't know who'll be next. And when all eyes start turning to her, she decides to do a bit of own snooping of her own. I whole-heartedly enjoyed reading this book. It was hot, sexy and very entreating read. I thoroughly enjoyed the worlds that Richelle Mead created around Georgina - both the mortal and immortal. Georgina still has enough of her humanity to make the reader feel connected to her. She wants what most people want in life - to be able to love and be loved in return. Succubus Blues also has a great supporting cast: Hugh, her friend and professional imp; Jerome, her demon boss who looks to have a John Cusak fetish; and Carter, the grungy angel who lives to torment Georgina, as well as a host of other equally engaging and likable characters. If you're looking for a hot new author and equally hilarious and steamy mystery, I'd definitely check out Succubus Blues.

OUT OF THE GATE A WINNER

Every now and then you will come across and author that will knock your socks off. This is one of those times. Succubus Blues by Richelle Mead is a complelling story of a Succubus that is looking for love. Sounds simple right? The problem is that she cannot get close without literaly sucking the life out of that person, slowly. A succubus needs the life energy in order for her to live. She may be able to have all sex she wants, but a close realionship she will never have. This story come to life and jumps off the pages at you. It is witty and complelling in that each and every charater is important to the story. In itself this is unusal, most of the time secondary characters take time to develop. Not so here, and you will become just as involved with them and their story. Soon you find that they haved wormed into you heart and you too have become part of this powerfully written and so enjoyable story about the never ending battle between good and evil.

Would Guys Like This?

Yes! Oh sure, I know what you're thinking. Girlie fantasy book, right? Think again. Richelle Mead has crafted a delightfully wicked story about a good-hearted succubus named Georgina who reluctantly works for the side of evil. Although she struggles to live the appearance of a normal mortal life and form meaningful relationships with those she cares about, she is thrust into a wild adventure wrought with peril. From seedy sexual encounters to battles with supernatural entities, this book keeps you on your toes and turning the pages. It's rare to find such an engaging and believable fairy tale in a debut novel. I hope to read much more from this author!

Though a large part of the cast is evil, they all have heart.

All the esteemed authors' endorsements on the cover are not just for show...this book is AMAZING! Richelle Mead is one helluva storyteller. Where to begin- ah, the characters. Lovable, funny, deeply flawed, immortal, and interesting. The romance between Georgina and her paramours is hot and yet riddled with complications due to her tricky job description. The plot is twisty turny and quite satisfying. It is rather rare to see an author touch on the Christian Bible in urban fantasy/paranormal romance genre, but Ms. Mead taps into a wide frame of reference with the deft touch similar to how Rachel Caine taps into weather. After reading it, I thought to myself - why hasn't anyone thought of that before? Never pornographic or ridiculous, the story's power relies us on caring about this small group of immortals and the people they love.

An Excellent Introduction to an Exciting New Universe

Filled with sharp wit and humor, Richelle Mead's writing manages to be light and accessible without being even slightly inane or loosing any insight, complexity, or poignancy. It's deeper and darker than your typical chick-lit, but manages to do that in a way that is neither depressing nor distressing. Which isn't to say that this story didn't hurt - the tragedy of a succubus, who longs to be touched by someone who cares about her but who would suck the life energy out of anyone who tries, is heartbreaking. The fact that this lingers constantly but is simply lived with rather than dwelt on in melancholy fashion serves to help the reader share in Georgina's pain. Don't let the fact that I referenced hurt in the last paragraph throw you though. This is a fun book, playfully written. But it is an entertaining, exciting mystery that nevertheless got me to care, deeply, about several of the characters, which I find is quite an accomplishment in the first installment of a series. It is much more usual for me to have a sense that I might like the characters later, when I get to know them better, sometime around book three maybe. The author has an MA in Comparative Religion and this shows through with her excellent grasp of dogma and mythology. Her book is populated by angels and demons, the concepts for which are not based on simply Sunday School teachings and pop-culture, but taken from a variety of older texts and beliefs. But none of this knowledge is displayed in a lecturer's tone, it all comes out in plots and snappy dialogue. All in all, this is an excellent read. If you're on the fence about buying it - but it! Just make sure you have some time set aside when you start it, because it's going to be hard to escape from once you get started.
