A great starter book for Mandarin

This book is a great book to start you off in learning Mandarin. It introduces the reader in grammar, vocabulary, and listening skills. It skips the traditional Chinese writing system and instead focuses on pinyin. One complaint I have is that it doesn't go into a lot of depth on different ways people from different regions will say things, which I have found quite different. Overall a good book for the money.
