Lynne has been searching for the right man her entire life. After a series of disastrous relationships and three ended marriages, she comes across Lance's personal ad on the Internet. She is... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I read this book on the advice of my lady friend, and at first I thought it would be a "chick book", not interesting to a man. Was I wrong! I went from chapter to chapter, wondering what would happen next and hanging on to every word. The author doesn't just tell a story; she speaks from her soul in diary form and makes the reader feel what she is feeling. She achieves this by use of short, concise chapters, and simple, straightforward language. As I read Lance's emails, I want to punch him in the nose. He is a smarmy and conceited control freak, and he twists the facts in every situation to shift the blame from himself. His invoking of God as though he has the inside track is especially infuriating. I want to shout "No, no, Lynne! Get away from him!" When she finally gets away from him, I feel like cheering "way to go, Lynne!" (Also, notice the pseudonym she chose for him -- Lance, short for Lancelot. Lancelot he isn't!!) This book is an excellent illustration of how anyone can get caught up in a toxic relationship, and how imperative it is to recognize such a relationship and to end it before real harm is done.
