Study Guide and Lesson Plans for the Book of Revelation

This study guide for the book of Revelation has been divided into thirteen lessons. It should probably be suitable for a Sunday school teacher who wants to teach the whole book of Revelation in a thirteen-week quarter. It will also be good for anyone who wants an easier way to study the book of Revelation. Each lesson will begin with a focus for the lesson. Then a list of usually five questions will follow which are intended to guide the instructor through the most important parts of the lesson. The structure of each lesson is in a somewhat loose outline format. That should make it easier for teaching the book of Revelation than just reading a book and trying to talk about it. Each lesson will conclude with a few closing remarks.

It should be pointed out that the book of Revelation is a very complicated book. For that reason, nineteen different charts have been included because it has been said that a picture is sometimes worth a thousand words. It is usually very difficult to understand prophecy that has not yet happened. Then of course, there are also those who have said that much of the book of Revelation has already happened. So this study guide has tried to address those kinds of concerns. The first lesson talks about Covenant Theology and Dispensationalism among other things. It then provides some reasons for believing that the book of Revelation should be interpreted literally. There is a great deal to consider when attempting a text such as this one. So a lot of effort has gone into it and many references have been used to try to get it right. It is hoped that the users will find this information useful and instructive.

There is one note, however, to be made with respect to the organization of this text. It was just stated that nineteen charts have been provided to help put the events of the chapters into a pictorial representation for easier understanding. Another thing that the reader of this text might find useful is boxes that show the different passages that are being referenced at the times and in the places where they are being referenced. That way, he or she will not have to jump all over the place or get into or out of the scriptures to locate a particular reference. Hopefully that inclusion will help the reader in trying to understand the various events and to also put them into the right context. The book of Revelation is important to read and try to understand because it is a part of the Word of God. The Lord has given it to His people to help them understand the things that are to come in the future. So it is hoped that He will receive the praise, honor, and glory from this work that He rightfully deserves.
