In 1856, P. Lerch, twenty-eight graduate of the Imperial St. Petersburg University, published "Studies on the Iranian Kurds and their ancestors northern Chaldeans." In 1855, during the Crimean War, around 100 Kurds were taken prisoner by the Russian army, they were placed in the province of Smolensk, and at the same time the newspaper "Northern Bee" wrote about the prisoners brought to Smolensk Kurds In 1856, on behalf of the Russian Academy of Sciences II .
