The aim of this study is to shed light on the system of aspectual contrasts in Biblical Hebrew, and more particularly how aspectual contrasts are used as a device in narrative technique. the Biblical Hebrew verbal forms partake, the investigation turns to the function of aspect in the coherent structures which are commonly called texts. outline; how statis clauses are used in the economy of a narrative or an episode, and further to investigate the interplay between foregrounded or backgrounded clauses. Finally, the function of the different aspectual values in their narrow context are investigated. two etats de langue will mutually shed light upon one another and will facilitate the observation of differences between them, especially as to the realization of the aspectual values.
