In the seemingly lifeless aftermath of a bushfire, a butterfly emerges from her cocoon with broken wings on a rare Knocklofty Leek Orchid. In order to survive, she depends on the other vulnerable endangered species of this unique habitat. What can a tiny butterfly possibly do to be helpful to all these bigger and stronger creatures? How can something so vulnerable and frail bring life to a desolated environment?
Various endangered creatures of the Derwent Estuary in Tasmania support her growth into a strong, brave, and kind part of the bush community. It turns out, however, that all the help they gave her may have actually been helping themselves to regenerate their local habitat.This subtle story is about resilience, rebuilding, and the beauty of what we create for each other when we engage in the act of service. It was born from my experience of mothering a child with significant complex disability, only to find that she had actually been showing me a world more beautiful than I could have possibly imagined.
