Kelly is having a really bad day, and she just woke up. Things went from bad to worse, when she discovers, that they were set up by her former assistant as a way to get revenge on her partner Steve. Kelly and Steve both worked for one of the government alphabet groups. Deciding they'd had enough, they started their own security agency. One of the last cases that Steve worked, never really meeting the principals involved, was a kidnapping. The husband of the woman that was kidnapped, decided to do his own thing, not trusting the agency to get his wife back. Things ending with his wife being killed and him spending the rest of his days in a wheelchair. Of course, he blamed everything on the agency, letting anyone who would listen know how he felt, including his young daughter. When Jessica was old enough, she systematically, killed all of the agents involved. Steve was the last one on her list, making Kelly a target by association.
