Sophmore Offering is Best-Seller Material!

Having read the author's first work, I was half-heartedly looking forward to this one, if for nothing other than seeing how the story would continue. When Mr. Grover made an offer in my reading club to send me a copy of the proofs, I decided that I wouldn't pass up the chance to read a free book. For this book...I would gladly pay the cover price. This offering picks up about six years after the first ends. Hans is still bitter, and growing more so every year. He is determined to get his revenge. So, he purchases a nuclear warhead from the black market and manages to acquire some highly sensitive computer hard drives from Los Alamos. His plan: to theaten detonation in Tony's hometown in order to pay him back in spades.Tony, as the MBR reviewer stated, is much more cynical this time around. Gone is the cockyness that he exhibited in the first book. We learn that this is attributed to his being alone - his wife Karen having been killed years before. I don't want to get into the story too much for fear of giving it away, but I simply cannot say enough about this. The damage description of a fifty-megaton blast seemed to be one of the more chilling aspects of the book, especially when you realize that Mr. Grover had assistance from the Los Alamos National Laboratory in getting the information. Overall, the general descriptiveness of the story is extremely appealing, and there are a great number of twists. The ending...well, let me just say that I have not read such an ending in a great number of years. I almost went nuts trying to find more. As with the first, the author leaves you with the knowledge that another story is to come. However, this time he really leaves the reader hanging. The characterizations are wonderful. While some of the story is set up to give you clues as to what's coming, quite a few areas are totally unexpected.Mr. Grover has written a chilling novel well worth earning him the title of author, and not someone trying to write. This book is written in such a way that I felt it could have been a very plauseable explaination of what happened the other year that we, as citizens, did not see. This novel ranks right up there with the likes of Dale Brown, Stephen Coonts, and Tom Clancy. Once again, the author left out a lot of the technological description. So what? I was glued to this outing from cover to cover and am very happy to have not missed out. I have recently purchased a real copy because this is certainly a book I want in my library. Kudos Mr. Grover. You've certainly made your mark with this one.

Midwest Book Review - chilling sequel to Strike Hard

Kevin Grover surpassed himself with this sequel to Strike Hard. He's learned a thing or two since writing his first book, and has put it all to good use in Strike Swiftly.Hans Reinhardt and his Hitler Youth sidekick Heinrich are still very much in evidence. Hans is in his 80s, but no doddering old man by any stretch of the imagination. He is "soft spoken with full bodied white hair, still well-muscled despite advanced age, with bright blue eyes that stalk their way from under white eyebrows". Despite that kindly description of the evil genius, Hans, his plan in this book is sinister and horrifying. He's plotted his revenge on Tony Wilson for several years and everything is firmly underway as this book begins. Age and an obsessive hatred of our hero has warped Hans' mind to a frightening degree. Neither his loyalty to the Nazi party nor his friendships of a lifetime mean much anymore compared to his drive to punish Tony Wilson. This time nothing is left to chance. Tony's demise is planned around detonating an SS-20 Ballistic Missile Warhead packing a 50 megaton whallop.Tony is now an F.B.I. agent, but tragedy has given him a harder edge this time around. The calm and methodical Tony of Strike Hard has turned reckless, with a coldly cynical streak he didn't have before. Tony doesn't much give a damn if he lives or dies, long before Hans resurfaces. His old friend, Nathan Hooks, joins the fray once again as Tony battles wits with Hans in a hair raising countdown to nuclear calamity. His cat and mouse game with Hans holds special meaning, because the personal stakes involved are broader reaching. This time, if Hans has his way, Tony will die along with everyone he loves and tens of thousands more.Just like with his first book, Kevin Grover did his research, producing fascinating tidbits gleaned directly from the Los Alamos National Laboratory staff. And the author threw in a couple unexpected twists that caught me totally off guard.Strike Swiftly is well written. The tension builds to a thought provoking climax, and the ending gave me chills. Mr. Grover has me eagerly anticipating a third book in this series!
