Los Siete de la Raza were 'strictly ghetto property' -- seven young men from the ghetto who had lived through, and helped lead, the new wave of latin radicalism generated when the colleges were opened to minority students. In May 1969 the seven were picked off the streets to stand trial for the murder of a policeman: their trial was a direct assault on the new consciousness growing in the ghettoes.
