The aim of surgical treatment with ACL reconstruction is to restore full knee function and stability with as little morbidity as possible at the site of graft harvesting. While the middle third of the quadriceps tendon has long been known as the primary graft of choice, it is usually only used as a second choice in cases of re-rupture.
