Walter Foster Learn to Draw Series

I must confess that I am disappointed. I love the cover design, which is one of the eight projects in the book. . . He does show how to transfer a sketch. He discusses refining outlines. He talks about hatching and cross hatching. My problem is with the title. It states, "Learn to Draw". All eight projects start with a photo that he has printed out in grayscale and traced onto his drawing surface. To quote the author on the top of page 5 it says, "Although many artists prefer to draw freehand on location, beginning artists might find it challenging to do so because of the angular nature of streets and architecture.... As an alternative to making time-consuming measurements for accuracy, using graphite transfer paper makes it quick and easy to lay out the basic composition when drawing from a photo." I was hoping for the opportunity to learn how to draw on location.
