The Haunted Field Guide Series continues with an essential guide to everything a ghost researcher needs to know about using technology to track down evidence of the paranormal. In this compelling and... This description may be from another edition of this product.
This book is pretty good. It's a nice side-manual to have when designing or looking for new paranormal or ghost hunting equipment. This book is good for both the novice and the expert. It spends a lot of time covering old equipment which is not a bad thing. The older equipment worked in different ways and sometimes produced results that modern equipment cannot. For example, you can no longer buy Polaroid cameras (except on eBay). Yet these cameras, based on how they work, can produce completely different results than today's digital cameras. In summary, let's face it, there are not that many books written about paranormal equipment, so you should definitely add this one to your collection. A must have!

This is a must have for any paranormal investigator. It isn't enough to just "use" your equipment, you should know the science behind it. The book covers all sorts of electronic devices used today and some that are just coming coming onto the scene. I've read a lot of ghost hunting books and this is one of the best in providing insight into why we use the gear we do.

Let me be clear, this is not a collection of ghost stories. This book is for the ghost hunter that is interested in the technology behind the hobby. Throughout Craig writes in a fairly easy to understand manner. It briefly discusses the electromagnetic spectrum and how wave frequencies work, something sorely lacking in most ghost hunting books. It discusses how both film and digal cameras work, and how to use them. It also includes a section on infrared and ultraviolet photography, something not nearly enough ghost hunterbooks touch upon. It discusses how contaminating photographic evidence can cause the false image of a ghost to appear on film. It discusses at length how video and nightvision operate and how to use them to your best advantage. It discusses EVP and how the various pieces of technolgy that are used to capture it operate. It touches upon various so called "psychic comunication devices" and how they're supposed to operate. It discusses some of the classic pieces of equipment such as EMF meters, thermometers, ion counters, geiger counters, motion detectors, radar detectors, compasses, and so on. He also details how to build equipment, and provides schematics for the budding electronics hobbyist. The best thing about the book is that not only does he tell how to use these items, but also how they work. This is essential if the ghost hunter is to have a full understanding of what it is they are detecting. Too few ghost hunting books provide this information.
