The Christian life begins with saving faith in Jesus of Nazareth which includes repentance of sin. This is merely the beginning of our walk with God. The Christian life not only begins in faith but must continue to grow in faith (Romans 1:17). Our faith must grow but the only way our faith grows is like any other muscle - by exercise Paul explains that this spiritual growth is based on God's part, "for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure." He also explains our faith grows in connection to our part, "... work out your salvation with fear and trembling." (Philippians 2:12-13).
