STORM is a collection of poems and short stories that channels the emotional whirlwind of one girl but represents many other voices who grow up black, female surviving living inside a female body in the inner city. These stories reveal the black female experience as that of a natural disaster; inevitable, destructive and temporary. These voices represent different stages of a storm as the catalyst for readers to participate in their own healing journey and discover tangible ways to manage the chronic stress that is associated with being a victim of violence and trauma. These voices promote positive social change through artistic expression and shared experience to restore the connection to community. It is only after a STORM that many have the ability to see clearly, it is the only major phenon that has the power to level all standing structures, to make equals of us all. It is also a primetime when people realize the importance of working together for the good of the masses. This STORM is a healing balm for women, girls and others who feel disconnected from community due to violence.
