I've read some negative reviews for the "Stories to Tell a Five-Year-Old," the prequel to this book (which I never owned), but I highly recommend this book. My mom bought it for me when I was six (I'm in my late teens now), and I absolutely loved it. She read some of the stories to me, and then I started reading them to myself. They were the right length for me to read one or two in a sitting. I loved that there were so many different stories, and especially enjoyed the story "The Big Cheese" (I believe that was the name), about a farmer who makes a perfect cheese and has a lot of trouble getting it to the King, as well as the chapter from the Velveteen Rabbit. In response to the above editorial review, I would say that at age six, I was too young to understand that the single chapters lifted from complete books were less "valuable" without the rest of the story - sort of like how most kids don't understand that reading the book is different from watching the movie. It just doesn't make that big of a difference to a little kid. And the point of getting kids books is for THEIR enjoyment, right? :) Happy reading!
