Stories of Wrath, Love, and Despair

This book has five stories. Some of them contain personal experiences and life events that have inspired me to create something related to them. They present a diverse scope of themes as components. Being wrath, love, and despair the central ideas of each tale, they also bring to the table an intended deep discussion about justice -or lack thereof- and there is a consistent challenge to established patterns of behavior, a cry for the ongoing scourge of domestic violence, and the need to find closure when we have gone through pain and suffering.
"Pomona" goes into the horrid conditions of domestic violence and abuse. Suggests that love can prevail as a healing power, even over reasoning and amid despair.
"Alpargata Morelli" is the story of a "guapo" from the old days in the suburbs of Buenos Aires who, as an aging tough guy, has the chance of bringing to stage one random and anachronistic last act of bravery.
"Dying in Chihuahua" depicts the life of an immigrant family in the United States and their struggles to adapt and stay in the country. The story is told against the backdrop of a tragedy, which the main character tries to uncover in Chihuahua.
"The Brit" portrays a couple of immigrants in Buenos Aires in the first quarter of the twentieth century. A young newlywed woman faces the usual conflicts of the times without accepting the role her environment tries to impose on her.
"Contaminated Waters" shows a family in a small rural town in Mexico experiencing the hardships of being sharecroppers. Suddenly they become victims of an unspeakable act of evil, which they, according to the societal structure, would have to accept because of their place in such a society. The story illustrates the high price we pay when we decide to seek justice with our own hands.
