Stones And Water

Young men in the 19th century who fought for their county returned home with lasting effects of war just as our soldiers do today. A condition referred to as Nostalgia, Soldier's Heart, or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as it is known today, was not a condition looked at closely in the medical community of that era. Soldiers of that time were expected to put their experiences behind them and move forward. For too many, it was, and continues to be, a difficult part of life. This is the fictional story of one man's struggle with a condition that not only affected his life, but the lives of his family and friends. A struggle many of our veterans of today endure daily. A coming of age tale that begins with a young girl's father, a powerful Southern aristocratic businessman, who disapproves of the developing relationship between his daughter, Renee, and a local attorney's son, Reuben. He sets in motion a tale of woe, horror, salvation, and victory, separating Renee from Reuben by an arranged marriage, causing Reuben to become a soldier and face the horrors of the battlefields in Mexico. Upon his return, Reuben is plagued with the dark memories of death he experienced, as well as Renee's upcoming wedding to a man she has no desire to wed. The combination of both nearly causes Reuben to take his own life, if it were not for a foreign visitor from a land, rich in dedicated honor and self-victory. With Renee's help, Reuben follows this man to a land where honor is based on the goodness of one's own heart and self-dedication is proven by one's own worth. It is here Reuben learns a powerful dedicated code that will restore his innocence lost on the bloody battlefields of Mexico and regain his faith in fate and love. It is this code that will reunite Renee and Reuben as love intended, only for them to be separated again by the bloody struggle of the American Civil War. This war will cause Reuben to use all he learned from the code to protect those he was forced to lead and keep his family he was forced to leave behind... together.
