Nick just wants to be left alone to do his job as a bartender in a small-town bar called The Hard Right, but people rarely get what they plan for in life. The one-legged owner mourning the loss of his wife, Nick's high school friend who can't get out of his own way, the unnamed patron with a round dent in his forehead and scars on his knuckles who quotes Machiavelli and the Bible, Nick's married ex-girlfriend who visits in the dark of the night, and the regulars at the men's table all share part of their lives in The Hard Right until one night when the door bursts open and a new person stumbles in soaking wet and on the run. Everyone's lives change and they learn more about each other than they ever knew before.
