Atallah Mansour is a veteran journalist who was 14 years old when the State of Israel was established in 1948 and most of his people became refugees. He is a lucky Palestinian-Arab-Christian who managed to remain in his home when his homeland became Israel. During his 60 year career as a journalist he covered the consequences of hate and war raging between Jews and Arabs. He wrote for Hebrew readers (mainly for Haaretz) and for Arabic readers (mainly in Al Quds) as well as becoming a well-known speaker about the Palestinians living in Israel for the International media. He has published books in Arabic, Hebrew and English. This book is Mansour's account of his life story for about 80 long years, from his tranquil village to the misery of refuge in the aftermath of the 1948 war. Later on, he describes his peculiar experience in a Jewish Kibbutz and the strike of luck that led to him to meet David Ben Gurion, Israel's founder in his home. Mansour has covered the effects of all Middle East wars in the Middle East beginning with the Suez war 1956. He was also the first reporter from Israel to move to the West Bank directly after the Six-Day War in 1967. In 1977, and during the peace talks between Israel and Egypt, he covered the first Israeli delegation to Egypt. In 1982 and, when Israel invaded Lebanon, he visited Lebanon few times and covered the misery of the Lebanese and the Palestinian refugees.During his long career he did his best to tell the story without taking sides, challenging voices from both camps. He suffered with both sides, and joined in the rare cases when peace was showing on the horizon, but he is still waiting with his people and countrymen for the dawn of peace in 2013.
