Stigmatism refers to the image-formation property of an optical system which focuses a single point source in object space into a single point in image space. Two such points are called a stigmatic pair of the optical system.
Then the most important stigmatic optical systems are studied, without any paraxial or third order approximation or without any optimization process. These systems are the conical mirrors, the Cartesian ovals and the stigmatic lenses. Conical mirrors are studied step by step with clear examples.
Key Features:
Includes examples throughout
Presents problems proposed to be solved by students as well as codes an algorithm in every chapterDiscusses the physical concepts needed, then focuses on the mathematical tools needed to understand the eikonal and the close form solution of the stigmatic optical systems
A great reference for research centres, optical based societies, optics journals, universities, optical based companies
