Sicks: a Story of Triumph Over Disability by Alfred E. Coleman is surprisingly inspirational. Told as much as possible in the voice of Alfred Coleman, Sticks describes how a person made ill by polio (this was in the pre vacine days), found meaning and joy as well as commercial success in his life. The story is simple but filled with charmingly described lessons in life. Particualry a good read for these somewhat trying times.

Sticks: A Story of a Man, A Pair of Crutches, and The Building of a Successful Family Business This book is based on A. E. Coleman's autobiography of his life as an entrepreneur, family business owner, champion athlete, loving father, community leader, and much more while overcoming the debilitating effects of Polio. In addition the book combines his writing with Ellen Wojahn's work in taking Mr. Coleman's story and skillfully updating his words to give today's reader perspective in understanding his success and his drive to overcome the obstacles before him. The result is an inspiring book that will make you think that anything is possible with hard work and determination. Sticks is also an excellent family business book that documents the story of a multiple generation American business and gives us a glimpse of the entrepreneurial spirit of founders of successful family enterprises from the last century.
