Stepping Stones: Looking Back to See God More Clearly on the Road Ahead

By Stephanie M Butler

Stepping Stones invites you to look back over the road of your life and recognize where God has been present, faithful, correcting, redirecting, and redeeming-even in places you once understood only through pain, loss, wrong choices, or uncertainty.

Using the Book of Ruth as its central biblical narrative, Stephanie M. Butler explores how individual steps can become part of a much larger story. Ruth could see only the step in front of her. God could see farther.

The same is often true for us.

Some of our steps are taken in obedience. Some are shaped by fear, pain, or poor decisions. Other circumstances are placed in front of us through no choice of our own. Yet none of those places are beyond God's ability to meet us, call us closer, and redeem what we surrender to Him.

Through Scripture, reflection, and the unfolding story of Ruth, Stepping Stones will help you consider:

- the difference between choices you made and circumstances you did not choose
- how God calls us back when our steps lead us away
- what redemption looks like when we cannot fix or restore everything ourselves
- how God can bring restoration without simply recreating the past
- what the stepping stones behind us can teach us about trusting Him with the road ahead

Each chapter includes a Stepping Stone reflection and space to journal what the Holy Spirit may be revealing as you look back over your own journey.

The purpose is not to remain focused on the past.

It is to recognize God there more clearly so that you can walk more closely with Him now.

We see the step. God sees the road.
