- Is there a difference between religion and spirituality? - What is God like? Can I find God in my life? What if I don't believe? - How do I find the Meaning of Life? How can I live a life that has real meaning? These are questions that are asked by people everywhere, and are traditionally answered by religion. But what happens when our society turns away from religion, yet these questions still persist? We develop individualized spirituality outside of, or co-existing with, religion. Stepping Out will not give you all the answers. Instead, it teaches you to find your own path, a path that you will suit your needs yet still lead you to a meaningful life.
This was a very eye-opening, and fresh perspective on the issue of God. I agreed with the author on about 90% of what he relayed in the book. One aspect that really hit me was when he mentioned what people should do that didn't believe in God....just don't believe! What a simplistic but overlooked concept!!! Certain people (such as myself) who are not believers somehow feel this inborn need to explain to others why we don't believe. Just don't believe and no need for explanations! I had problems with the ending, as Mr. Lalonde assume that God, "the purpose to all of this" is morally good. I don't believe in the traditional concept of God, but if there is "something out there", we are finite human beings with limited capacity. We cannot make a moral judgement about things we can only assume. Overall a very good book and I would recommend to others who are open minded about their beliefs.
Loved It!

This is a great book for anyone who is unsure of their spirituality. If you don't understand organised religion or it just doesn't make sense to you, this book helps you guide you own your own path.

Stepping Out was the perfect balance of personal and philosophical, theoretical and practical. Lalonde is the master of analogies, drawing simple yet effective comparisons that make his points clearly and simply. I found his spirituality highway analogy especially effective and enlightening. His touching personal stories made me feel like I knew the author for years. This was a highly comforting read, which left me feeling at peace with myself. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is examining their spirituality, questioning their faith, or is at all unsure about what they believe.
Refreshingly comforting

This book was a refreshing change from others I have read in this area. While other books have made me feel guilty and apologetic, this author was very non-judgemental and not pushy at all, presenting his ideas in a comforting take-it-or-leave-it manner. Although many of his ideas were not earth-shatteringly new concepts, many times I found myself thinking, "Wow, that makes so much sense! I never thought about it that way." Lalonde has a way of taking such a vast and abstract topic and making it seem so incredibly simple.
Good Questions

What I liked about this book is that it had the guts to ask questions that I always ask. I am Catholic, and I am always confused with what my parents taught me when I was growing up. This book asks those questions. I also felt that I could relate to the authors life, and felt for him in what he went through. It took a bit to get used to him calling God she...lol.
