This is an excellent series for learning reading comprehension. Each book slightly overlaps the other so that you know that the concepts are thoroughly learned and practiced. The stories are engaging and fun so my children never minded reading them. There are enough easy questions in each chapter to keep a child going, and enough challenging questions to make sure the child is moving forward.
Perfect comprehension workbook for the emerging reader.

Claws and Paws is the second in a series of reading comprehension books by Steck-Vaughn. It is aimed at the primary reader who can read at about the grade one/two level. It takes the reader progressively through more and more difficult questions about the stories just read as it works through stories 1-16. It combines multiple choice, sequencing, vocabulary matching, and follow the direction types of questions. It asks for an all round thinking process. The questions avoid being inferencial and the focus is on direct, objective answers that can be found in the story. The stories are usually interesting and approximately one page long or less. The questions for each story ask for approximately 25 answers.
