The illustrations are wonderfully funny and really enhance the text. The text is hilarious. Our family has close ties to the Ohio River and steamboating, and I knew we had to have this book! We are not disappointed! It also makes a great read-aloud if you are a teacher or librarian.

This is a wonderful modern tall tale, with a strong female heroine. I am looking forward to reading many more books by this author. The graphics are wonderful.

I was charmed by the story of Steamboat Annie, a no-nonsense gal who can handle any situation - even an "onery" thousand pound catfish. The story is a hoot! Howard Fine's illustrations are magnificent - the pictures of the singing townsfolk and the town's soloist cow are delightful. Pictures of Ernie (that onery catfish) are downright scary. But don't worry, kiddies, Annie can handle him!
