Excellent Primer on Stats for Clinicians

I have found this book to be a very good review of inferential statistical methods as applied to medical research, presented in a progressive manner with helpful examples. While I had studied some statistics in university, that was some 20 years ago and I'm quite rusty. Although that training has been helpful, one need not have it to understand the mathematical formulae which the author presents. Not only does Professor Colton review proper application of different statistical methods, he also addresses improper uses and mistakes in interpreting data. There is also a chapter on critically assessing medical-journal articles.Finally, at the end of most chapters there are exercises with answers covering topics such as probability, means, proportions, regression and correlation, and nonparametric methods. At the time of publication (1974) Mr. Coltron was Associate Professor of Preventative and Social Medicine, Harvard Medical School, Boston; visiting Professor of Biostatistics, Dartmouth Medical School, Hanover, New Hampshire, and Memorial University of Newfoundland, St. John's, Newfoundland.All in all I've found this book to be an excellent read. In fact I finished about a quarter of it in one sitting. It is proving helpful in designing a questionnaire for research I'll be conducting in the near future, one which will be suitable for statistical analysis.
