This was an action packed book, filled with imaginative, yet dangerous and intense scenarios. One thing's for sure. The SCE has a high body count. Although the SCE is not "canon", and is not as popular as the mainstream Original series and TNG series of books, it is truer to one of the basic premises of Star Trek- To boldly go where no one has gone before. Lately, the normal Star Trek books seems to be all about the Borg, and occasianlly Q. The SCE, in contrast, have imaginative stories in every book. It's as if the publishers have given the authors a free pass to let their imaiginations go wild, within the Star Trek universe, and sometimes outside the universe (readers will understand what I mean). This one pulled no punches, and the crew of the SCE aboard the USS Da Vinci mixed nicely with that of Deep Space 9 in several adventures. All in all, a very good series of short stories, all of which will have you rivited, both due to the action and the character developments.
