"Standing in the Light" is an excellent account of what happens when individual consciences collide with church rules and with each other. The author, who was an active parishioner at Corpus Christi, tells her personal story of this parish in crisis and reflects on her life in the parish. In addition, she has also interviewed people connected with the parish on all sides of the issues. It is a book of faith in God and a belief in the basic goodness of all people, even those with whom we disagree. The book is also prophetic because it provides inspiration and ideas to readers who face their own individual crisis of conscience versus rules. There is no single correct answer for everyone. Each of us has to look in our own heart and decide the best road to follow in our faith journey toward God and follow that road as best as we can do.
Fabulous Faith

If you want to know what can be achieved when a group of parishioners decide to stand up against the bullying might of the institution of the Roman Catholic Church, then this is the book. Chava's inside story gives a fabulously moving account of the pain, suffering, courage and determination of a congregation who decide that following Christ's teaching of welcoming allcomers is more important than following the petty rules of the official church. They pay for it dearly, losing their pastors, church buildings and community outreaches. But not for long. By the time the idiots at the diocese have excommunicated them all en-masse, they've re-built everything, re-hiring their pastors and workers and borrowing buildings from sympathetic protestant churches. Fabulous!
